Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, was born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both lawyers. After moving to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma attended The Dragon School. Emma chose to be an actor by the age of six. For several years, she attended the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing, dancing and acting. Her performances had been in several Stagecoach and school productions by the time she turned ten. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 version of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book was released in 1999. Emma was discovered by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that after eight consecutive auditions, she as well as Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. The debut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. It also was the film that was most popular during 2001. The opening weekend and day sales were record-breaking. Reviewers have been highly lauding the film and the performances by the three young actors. The Daily Telegraph in Britain and the Daily Telegraph in America, widely read, called her performance commendable. Emma received five awards for her performance in the film.
